Seasonality affects A/B tests when shopper intent, traffic sources, promotions, inventory, or buying patterns change during the experiment. Random assignment helps, but it does not make every period representative of future trade.

Separate balance from generalization

A simultaneous control and variant can remain balanced during a holiday sale. The result may still apply only to high-intent sale traffic rather than normal weeks.

Record commercial events

Log discount launches, email sends, product drops, stockouts, price changes, and paid-media shifts. These notes help explain why traffic or revenue patterns changed while the test was active.

Avoid crossing incompatible periods

A test that starts before a major promotion and ends during it may combine two different shopping contexts. Pause, restart, or analyze the planned period based on rules set before looking at the outcome.

Retest seasonal claims

If a change is intended for year-round use but was tested only during a peak, confirm it under normal demand. If it is intended only for the peak, test close enough to the use case to preserve relevance.
