Shopify A/B testing compares a control storefront experience with one or more variants, splits eligible traffic, and measures which experience better supports a defined business outcome.
Start with one decision
Write the decision the test will inform before building a variant. Choose one primary metric, record guardrail metrics, and define who is eligible for the experiment.
Change one coherent idea
A variant can include several edits when they express one hypothesis, such as a new product-page hierarchy. Avoid mixing unrelated price, copy, and layout changes if you need to know why performance moved.
Check the assignment
Confirm that shoppers remain in the assigned experience across page views, devices behave as expected, and checkout revenue is attributed after the storefront session.
Read uncertainty, not only lift
A positive lift estimate is not a stopping rule. Review the chance to beat control, credible interval, sample mix, runtime, and whether the effect matters commercially.
