Shopify A/B testing is a controlled experiment that assigns eligible shoppers to a control or variant storefront experience and compares outcomes such as conversion rate, orders, or revenue.

How an A/B test works

A testing app assigns each eligible visitor to one experience and keeps that assignment stable during the experiment. It records exposure, conversion events, and confirmed orders so both experiences can be compared under the same traffic conditions.

What Shopify stores can test

Common test surfaces include landing-page URLs, product templates, themes, navigation, merchandising, calls to action, and custom storefront behavior. Sofcy supports URL, template, theme, and JavaScript API tests.

What a test can answer

A good experiment answers a narrow decision such as whether a clearer delivery message improves completed-order revenue. It cannot explain every reason behind the result, so qualitative research and follow-up tests still matter.

When not to test

Do not test a broken checkout, a legally required disclosure, or a change that needs immediate release. Very low traffic and tiny expected effects can also make a controlled test too slow to support a useful decision.
